My Book of the Month for August 2020 is How Many Bugs? by Agnese Baruzzi.

Pip is currently learning to count, so we’ve been singing counting songs and reading books to support her understanding of number and counting. She also has a fascination with minibeasts, so this book is just perfect for her right now.

The book counts down from 10 to 1 as the bugs get eaten by some hungry creatures which you discover through peek-through pages. It’s a great book to introduce children aged 4-5 years to the concept of counting back and 1 less (which they learn in Reception), while children aged 2-3 years can simply count the bugs on each page.

The cute illustrations are bright, bold and colourful and Pip is now able to identify and name all the bugs in the book, so it’s helped to strengthen her vocabulary too.

I think this book would be a lovely gift for children aged 2-5 years.
