My Book of the Month for May 2020 is Oh No, George! by Chris Haughton.
We’ve had this one for a little while, but it’s currently the book we’re reading most nights before bed. It’s quite a quick one to read, so makes a good bedtime story.
Chris Haughton writes and illustrates the book and once you’ve seen one of his books, you’ll notice others, as he has a very distinctive style.
It’s a funny story and my little one finds George very amusing. George is a dog who wants to be good, but when his owner, Harris, pops out, he gets tempted by the things he finds around the house. He can’t resist eating cake, playing with Cat and digging some lovely soil. When Harris returns from his outing, he’s a little bit shocked to see what George has been up to. But can George show Harris that he can be good? You’ll have to read it and find out.
Repetition in stories supports speech and language development, as it helps children to learn the words. My little one loves to say, “Oh no, George!” which is repeated throughout the book. You know children are enjoying a book when they happily join in too.
I’m keen to read more of Chris Haughton’s books, I like the look of Shh! We Have a Plan. Let me know in the comments if you’ve read any of his books and which ones you’d recommend.
