The Hands of a Toddler

I remember my baby’s lovely little hands.

Among all the hand washing, my now toddler’s hands have had a busy day.

They moved stones and soil around the garden.

They scooped the tomato sauce off my lunch plate and smeared it all over the carpet.

They poked me in the eye as I pretended to be asleep on the sofa.

They carefully laid a small blanket over the dog while he slept.

They pointed at birds that flew above us.

They threw unwanted dinner on the floor in protest.

They reached up and pressed all the keys on Daddy’s laptop while he tried to do an online shop.

They wiggled their fingers at me asking for Twinkle Twinkle Little Star at bedtime.

They carefully held my cheeks while she looked lovingly into my eyes and said, “night night Mummy.”

Those lovely little hands.
